Going off the Net for a Couple of Weeks

I am heading out on vacation today for a few weeks....I may sneak a peek on line or on Twitter...but no promises. We will be camping in areas where cell signals are rare!

Everyone have a great couple of weeks and I will "see" you all when I get back! Maybe we will have a few running adventures to share.

Here is hoping for less rain and more sunshine!! :-)

Adventures in Columbia - Meeting Rachel

While on travel in Columbia, MD I had the privilege to meet fellow runner Rachel. She had intended on meeting up with Adam while he was in DC (I was going to join them) but instead some severe storms came through the area, complete with tornados. Power was down throughout the DC metro area.

Rachel invited me to try fried pickles. I have never had them, so we went to Rocky Run for me to try some out (we should have gone running instead!). The pickles were great and the company was greater!

Now Rachel is going to run the Walt Disney World Marathon! We will get a chance to meet once again - this time with a few other runners I know are running the race as well.

Micro Blogging Instead of Blogger

When Maddy, Adam and I were running the other night, Maddy noted that with Twitter, we seem to blog less. It seems that we are keeping up with each other much more continuously - and don't see the need to the frequent blog entries.

Then I realized that there are a number of folks who don't Twitter.

In addition, some interesting stuff can be lost in the 240 character limit.

So here is to blogging!!!

On the running front - I got 3 runs in this week. The first run was with Maddy and Adam. After the first 3 mile lap, I wimped out of doing a second lap and we settled in for some smoothies and good company.

The last two runs were early in the morning. Getting up early (once again) is a tough adjustment for my late night self, but necessary. It isn't so much the heat in the late day...I can handle the temps at 7 pm. But it is the late day, unpredictable thunderstorms that can literally put a damper on the running. Rather than risk missing a run, it is better to get up early.

During my morning runs, I get to see an entirely different set of runners on my Lockwood route. I got a chance to hook up with a local neighborhood runner named Joan. Joan runs with her dog every day for about 6 miles. When we see each other we stop and chat. She is 56 and running strong but doesn't run in any races. She is out there because she loves it and wouldn't have it any other way.

Friday is my rest day before running both Sat and Sun.

A New Blog: I Run Like the Wind

My running daughter (screen name "jazzgirl") has just started her own blog called "I Run Like the Wind."

I love the blog name....at the end of any race we do together, she DOES run like the wind and make me look like I am standing still.

Blog on my young runner! :-)

Running in Columbia, MD

Something on the running path around Centennial Lake Today's running adventure was to Centennial Park for a run around the lake. Naturally I lost my way....extending a 2.5 mile run to 4.3 miles. Trying out the use of my cell phone as a more mobile reporting device (left the camera home this trip) I took a few pics and a short video. Overall a nice run in cooler climes!
